AIX
Installation of a New Physical Volume
- # diag
- Select: Task Selection
- Select: Hot Plug Task
- Select: SCSI and SCSI Raid Hot Plug Manager
- Select: Attach a Device Attached to an SCSI Hot Swap Enclosure Device
- Select: Slot # of the physical volume you wish to remove
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the new physical volume
Linux
Installation of a New Physical Volume
- Partitioning the physical volume
- # fdisk /dev/XXX
- Command (m for help): n
- p
- Partition Number (1-4): 1
- First cylinder(1-..., default 1): <Enter>
- Last cylinder(1-..., default): <Enter>
- Command (m for help): t
- Hex code (type L to list codes): 8e
- Command (m for help): w
- # fdisk /dev/XXX
- Initialize disk for use by the LVM
- # pvcreate /dev/<physical_volume#>
- If creating a new volume group
- # vgcreate <volume_group> /dev/<physical_volume#>
- If adding to an existing volume group
- # vgextend <volume_group> /dev/<physical_volume#>
