Planning
- Determine your backup strategy.
- VSS Backups (Full backup only)
- Legacy Backups (Full/Differential/Logs)
Server Preparation
- Two nodes must be registered, the node that will be used for the Backup/Archive Client, and one for TDP.
- Register the Backup/Archive node.
- tsm> REGister Node <hostname/clustered name> <password> DOmain=<domain> CONtact=<contact info>
- Register the Data Protection node.
- tsm> REGister Node <hostname/clustered name>-TDP <password> DOmain=<domain> CONtact=<contact info>
- Create the proxy access for the agent.
- tsm> GRANT PROXynode TArget=<hostname/clustered name>-TDP AGent=<hostname/clustered name>
- Backup Strategy
- If the path to the schedule includes a space, use the MS-DOS naming convention such as C:\Program Files would be C:\PROGRA~1
- Legacy Backups
- Create the full backup client schedule.

TDP Client Installation
- Install the Tivoli Backup/Archive Client before proceeding.
- Install the Data Protection for SQL Server.
- Execute the setupfcm.exe program.
- Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
TDP Client Configuration
- Start the TDP MMC.
- Start > All Programs > Tivoli Storage Manager > Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server > DP for SQL Management Console
- Expand: IBM Tivoli Storage Manager->Dashboard->Manage
- Click: Configuration
- Double click: Wizards
- Double click: TSM Configuration
- Restart the system.
TDP Client Verification
- Start the TDP MMC.
- Start > All Programs > Tivoli Storage Manager > Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server > DP for SQL Management Console
- Expand: IBM Tivoli Storage Manager->Dashboard->Protect and Recover Data
- Click: SQL Server
- Click on Tab: Automate
- Change PowerShell to Command Line
- In the command window below execute the following commands.
- q tsm
- q tdp
- q sql
- If these commands do not return errors, the TDP Client is configured properly.
