Initialize a Full System LPAR

  1. Logon to the HMC as an administrator.
  2. Expand: Systems Management->Servers.
    1. Highlight the server.
    2. From the Tasks Panel Select: Properties.
    3. Ensure "Power off the system after all logical partitions are powered off" is not checked.
  3. From AIX shutdown the LPAR.
    1. # shutdown -h now
  4. Remove the LPAR from the HMC's NVRAM.
    1. Expand: Systems Management->Servers.
    2. Highlight the server.
    3. From the Tasks Panel Expand: Configuration->Manage Partition Data.
    4. Click: Initialize
    5. Confirm your choice.
  5. Recreating the LPAR.
    1. Expand: Systems Management->Servers.
    2. Highlight the server.
    3. From the Tasks Panel Expand: Configuration->Create Logical Partition.
    4. Click: AIX or Linux.
    5. Name the LPAR as the serial number of the system and the Profile as anything.
    6. Check: Use all the resources in the system.
    7. Click: Finish
